From A. G. (San Francisco, CA): I cannot recommend Mission Creek Sail Tours enough.
After hiring MCST for our engagement celebration, we were so impressed we decided to book with them one year later. And again, we were not disappointed!
The 'Imi Loa is a beautiful boat with everything you'd need for a fun, comfortable (safe) and exciting cruise. Captain Greg and Cathy are very professional and very fun to spend a day with. They know the bay extremely well and will work with you to create an amazing day on the water.
Again, highly recommended! |

From Monica M. (San Francisco, CA): My daughter and her boyfriend
were out from the east coast visiting and I wanted to make
her last day memorable so we rented a day of sailing from Mission
Creek Sail and it was the best time ever!
We were so impressed with how Capt. Greg and his wife Cathy
made everything so special for us. We had the entire
boat for the day and Capt. Greg sailed anywhere in the bay
that we wanted. We had multiple choices to dock the boat
to get out and explore - we went to Treasure Island for wine
tasting. It was so much fun.
The sailing was spectacular and Capt. Greg and Cathy made the
entire experience special.
We will be sailing again Capt. Greg and Cathy! Thanks
for a wonderful experience! |
|
From Beth O. (San Francisco, CA): We had a fantastic weekend sailing the bay with Greg. He provided a very customized sailing trip for our group. Greg is an awesome captain and equally awesome teacher! He gave us tons of information, answered all our questions and made the experience really fun! |
|
From Rick K. (Cupertino, CA): If you want a super fun sail
on the heart of SF Bay..Captain Greg is your man! From
the moment you leave his slip right behind ATT Park, the sights
are fantastic and with the winds from the "gate" you can get
all the "rail in the water" excitement you can handle! |
|
From Andrew K. (San Francisco, CA): Last weekend some
friends and I went sailing with Captain Greg on his charming
boat, where he taught us some sailing basics and terminology
and treated us to a perfectly pleasant autumn afternoon on
the water.
We took an introductory course, you might say -- we learned
some essential knots, covered the different parts of the
boat, to help hoist the sails and take them in, steer a little
bit, taught us about tacking and jibing, etc. The Captain
was incredibly nice and has a great sense of humor, and just
loves taking people out on the water. We didn't have a lot
of wind that day, but it didn't matter.

From John A. (Danville, CA): Captain Greg is the best. 4
of us went out on July 31st and had a great time. The
food was great, lots of laughs and a great way to see the San
Francisco Bay! |
|
From Caroline H. (Burlington, VT): Greg was super nice and
friendly and did all that he could to make the day happen,
all while knowing I was only paying half price because I had
purchased a Groupon [Capt. Greg: actually it was Livingsocial]
deal. I can't thank him enough. You don't get that level of
customer service these days.
Thank you, Greg! |

From David K. (Palos Hills, IL): A friend and I did
the 4 hour sail across the Bay to Sausalito and back in late
September. Being a Monday not many other boats were out. It
was a breezy day making the sailing awesome. In fact, the sail
back to the SF-side was done quicker than he had ever done
it according to Greg. He did a great job in handling the boat
by himself and we also found him personable and easy to talk
to.
With the sailing so great in the Bay the motoring through Richardson
Bay seemed to drag on too long as did the sailing along the
San Francisco city front when we were out of the wind.
It was a very good way to spend an afternoon and we thoroughly
enjoyed it.
[Capt. Greg: We had a pretty good run over to Sausalito
but coming back was one of our fastest sails ever! We sailed
from Yellow Bluff to Fort Mason (a bit over 2nm) in less
than 20 minutes. I figure we averaged around 8.3 knots, which
for my boat, is pretty darn quick. I had great crew that
day!] |
|
From Rosemary P. (San Francisco, CA): My sister and
niece were in town for a visit and we wanted to do something
special so we booked a Mission Creek Sail Tour. Captain Greg
met the three of us at the dock and took us for a three hour
sail. It was like being on our own little private yacht. We
went out on a Monday so we practically had the bay to ourselves.
He even gave my niece, age 13, an opportunity to "steer
the boat." Provisions - an antipasti plate, beer, wine,
non-alcoholic drinks - were set out for us once we got to calm
water. Wonderful! |
|
From Carson P.. (San Francisco, CA): Greg and Cathy
were great hosts for our day on the Bay. Besides taking us
on a fact-filled tour of the bay, they prepared a great meal
and had cold bevvies in the cooler for all of us.
At the end of the day, we relaxed on dry land with the captains
and a couple of cold ones. By the end of the afternoon we had
figured out a few more trips to take later this year. We will
definitely be back. |
|
From Rick K. (Cupertino, CA): Sailed with Greg and
Cathy on April 11 for a family special outing...3 of us are
turning 40 this year and i wanted to do something special for
the "Birthday Boyz"...had a great time, even though
the weather is a bit iffy this time o' year. These folks run
a great ship and offer super service! All my "crew",
were super pleased with the time they had!..Highly reccomended
for anyone looking for a unique way to experience San Francisco..from
the water...they even gave us a tour of McCovey Cove! |
|
From Laura L. (Englewood, CO): We were visiting SF
relatives from out-of-state and I wanted to charter a sailboat
for my husband's birthday. Unfortunately, this year his birthday
fell on the day after Thanksgiving. I tried several different
captains who either: 1). didn't want to spend their holiday
weekend on a charter, 2). were worried about the Nov. weather,
or 3). wanted a lot more money for the charter.
Captain Greg Sherwood came recommended from another captain
and was enthusiastic and encouraging from the start. We stayed
in touch via email and everything went smoothly. Their website
also contains everything you would want to know beforehand.
A 34 foot sailboat is a fairly intimate setting and we had
seven of us on the boat that day. I can honestly say that
both Greg and Cathy Sherwood made the whole experience very
comfortable. They have the right mix of knowledge and conversation
to make the whole trip really fun. They also had nice drinks
for us and made great snacks for the trip.
The weather that day was cool with limited wind, but we
still had a grand time! |
|
From Christopher C. (Bethlehem, PA): My wife and
I sailed with Greg and Cathy this past weekend. They are
a fantastic duo who are highly hospitable and full of knowledge
of the local area. We had never been on a sailboat before
and they both made sure that it was a great experience that
we will never forget. If you are thinking of doing a charter
of the Bay Mission Creek is the real deal! You will not be
disappointed. |

From Andrew B. (San Francisco, CA): I am now engaged....thanks
to Greg and Cathy! On July 4th, I surprised my girlfriend
with "brunch" on the Bay. We started the day on
the Pier with an introduction to the "Imi Loa." Beautiful
boat. We sailed under the Bay Bridge, across the skyline
and toward the Golden Gate. The ride truly gives you a different
perspective on the city. After a couple of hours of sun and
the calm waters, we docked in Sausalito. Greg had arranged
a spread of food from a caterer - coffee, fruit, bagels,
lox, and, or course, some champagne. I got on one knee in
the middle of brunch and asked her to marry me.
It was an excellent experience - prices are very reasonable,
and Greg and Cathy are gracious hosts. This is a perfect
event for a tourist, a local San Franciscan, or even a guy
with plans to propose. Thank you Greg and Cathy! See you
again soon. |
|
From Angie K. (Richmond Hill, GA): This was a second
trip to San Francisco and my husband and I wanted to see
it from a different perspective. We were also traveling w/friends
so this was a first for all of us. I had never been on a
sailboat before and found it to be a lot of fun. It was a
very peaceful and beautiful on the bay. Even more relaxing
after a couple of glasses of wine! The sailboat was in great
shape and the captain, Greg was very knowledgeable (of sailing
and the sites around the bay). I found him to have our safety
in mind and also wanted us to sit back and relax while he
and his first mate, Martin did all the work! Greg and Martin
were very interesting and entertaining and if we ever make
back to San Francisco, We will be going sailing with Mission
Creek Again! |
|
From Nancy L. (San Mateo, CA): Highly recommended
as a GREAT way to see the Bay...and spend a fabulous day
with friends! What an awesome time -- Greg and Martin expertly
sailed us around the bay and added commentary to the "tour" when
we asked for it. They were a lot of fun...and I was never
concerned about our safety. Although one of my friends had
a problem with motion sickness (NOT the norm!!!), the crew
did whatever they could to help manage the problem. Only
being on shore solved it for her, but the point is...Greg
and Martin did their best to minimize her discomfort. All
in all...a great day...a great crew. |
|
From Lisa N. (San Jose, CA): I have never been on
a sailboat before, or a boat in the SF bay at all.
It was by far the best way to see the bay area. I have lived
here my whole life, yet have never seen it from this perspective.
Beautiful views and great times. You get a lot of amazing
pics from the boat as well!
Crew is amazing. Greg and Cathy were fun and friendly and
made me and my friends feel safe and secure, even though
it was all of our first time on a sailboat. They took us
on a great route and we all had a blast!
Great day, great trip, highly recommended. Set Sail!! |

From Stuart B. (San Francisco, CA/Scotland): We
first chartered with Mission Creek Sail Tours when we visited
San Francisco on holiday in 2005. Since returning to live
and work here in February 2008, we decided it'd be nice to
repeat the experience since my sister-in-law was visiting
us.
Greg and Cathy made us feel very welcome and after a short
safety briefing we were off around the bay. We had a really
great time and there'd obviously been a lot of thought into
what makes the guests feel comfortable. There were toys for
our son to play with (he's 16 months, so wasn't really able
to focus on things) as well as sodas and bottled waters.
The views were incredible. For me the bit I liked was that
you could do as much or as little of the work of sailing
as you wanted. I have to confess to hogging the helm a bit.
I'd definitely go back.
Cathy made sure there was a nice secure berth in the cabin
for our son's nap. |
|
From Ben S. (San Carlos, CA): You took me on your
boat around the Bay Area on my birthday in the beginning
of July, my girlfriend had set it up for me. We had a blast
and I really enjoyed it, so much that I told my boss about
it and then she ended up taking her husband and family on
the boat for her husbands birthday! I wish you all the best,
and I will continue to send you referrals for your tours
because it was such a magnificent time. |
|
From Dr. Rocky D. (Rochester, MN): Jan and I had
a great time and we enjoyed meeting you and Cathy. Thanks
for a real treat. (I am sorry you were so busy at the
tiller with all the boats out in the bay that day.)
[Capt. Greg: Fleet Week wasn't all that bad this year. There
were only around 20 bazillion boats on the Bay, not the typical
50 bazillion.] |
|
From Kristin & John (Newport, RI): We just
wanted to thank you both for a great cruise. It
was the highlight of our vacation. Everything about
our sunset cruise was perfect, right down to the delicious wine
and appetizers !!! |
|
From
Beth L. (San Francisco, CA): Thanks to both you and
Cathy for a lovely sail on the Bay for John's birthday. We
enjoyed ourselves, both on the water, and afterwards with
you, at the Club.
[Capt. Greg: See more of Beth & Johns photos from their
sail on

From
Erin & Daniel H. (Toronto, ON): Thank you again;
it was truly an awesome afternoon. You guys were a blast!
Greg and Cathy of Mission Creek Sail Tours were an integral
part of making our trip of a lifetime a huge and memorable
success. After a week of touring wine country we were wisked
away on an unbelievable afternoon of sailing, fabulous gourmet
lunch and of course wine! Captain Greg's expertise and knowledge
made the excursion very relaxing and informative. The boat
'Imi Loa' was beautifully maintained and very comfortable.
I HIGHLY recommend Mission Creek Sailing Tours and will definitely
use them again next time I am in San Francisco!
[Capt. Greg: See more of Erin & Daniel's photos in our Photo
Gallery and be sure to check out Daniel's video on
our SF Bay page] |
|
From Sarah A. (Riverside, CA): I just wanted to thank
you both again for our amazing sail on Saturday. We all had
a great time and it was the perfect way to spend Ben's birthday.
You were both very nice and hospitable. I could not have asked
for a better experience. I will definitely recommend you to
anyone that is looking to charter a boat in the bay.

|
From
Andrew L. (Phoenix, AZ): I have been intending to write to
you for some time to thank you for the perfect sailing day
last August 12 when I proposed to my fiance, Susan.
[Capt. Greg: She said "Yes"!] |

Capt.Greg is gregarious and an excellent instructor. I enjoyed earning how to make different nods with the line and striving to sail the boat. I am encouraging my friends to take the class. Is a good deal. |

Loved the class but would've loved it more if we would've gotten to do more hands on. Even if it was small tasks. |

It was great! Even in the short time we had, we were
able to learn a lot of sailing history, terms and expressions,
knots, and sailing basics. I would definitely like to
get into sailing and this was a great way to start! |

Thought Capt Greg was a great instructor who was always
happy to answer all your questions. Also enjoyed the
fact that we were a group of 5 for instruction. |

It was supposed to be a sailing lesson, but it felt
more like a tour. Not enough hand on learning experience. |

sailing. |

Believe me, my young friend, there is
nothing — absolutely
nothing — half so much worth doing as simply
messing about in boats.
